E-mail: andrew [dot] templer [at] royalroads [dot] caDr. Andrew Templer is a professor of Management in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Windsor. His first university degrees were in Industrial Psychology from the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). He then went on to complete an M.Sc. at the London School of Economics (UK) and his PhD back at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is particularly pleased to hold the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPAO).
Dr. Templer feels that it is extremely important, as a management teacher, to balance academic, professional and practitioner perspectives. In his own career he has tried to follow this principle:
On the research side, Andrew's interests are in the areas of the evaluation of human resources, reward systems and the impact of new technology. He is the author of over 60 papers which have been published around the world and has been on the editorial board of several management journals.
As a practitioner, Andrew has held senior HR management positions in several multinational corporations, including International Telephone and Telegraph and Urwick International and has consulted for a wide variety of organizations around the world, including IBM, Tiger Oats, Nissan, Greenshield Pre-paid Services, Monsanto and Ingrams. A recent project involved the introduction of strategic human resources planning into the public service of Trinidad and Tobago - and he managed to organize this in the midst of an Ontario winter!
At present Andrew is serving a second term on the board of directors of the HRPAO and is a member of the Executive Council of their Human Resources Research Institute. In addition, he has served for over 15 years on the HRPAO's Education Standards Committee.
Andrew knows quite a bit about where on-line students are coming from as he completed a large part of his studies as a part-time student. In addition, for five years he taught post-experience MBA students in the School of Business Leadership of the University of South Africa. This is one of the world's largest distance-learning institutions with almost 150,000 students. In addition, he has also written several distance learning courses for the University of Windsor and the Institute of Personnel Management.
Fortunately, even professors have a life outside! Here's a flavour: Andrew is an inveterate anglophile (with two aging British classic cars), a wife who is a Presbyterian minister, and is the increasingly-harassed father of three handsome daughters!
