Mike Thompson is an Associate Professor and academic lead for management consulting with the Faculty of Management at Royal Roads University.

Prior to this appointment, he was Senior Manager, Business Development for TD Commercial Banking with over 20 years’ commercial banking experience gained in the U.K, Ontario, and British Columbia. His academic credentials include an Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Manchester and a Diploma in Land Economics from the University of British Columbia. Professional certifications include Fellow of Institute of Canadian Bankers (FICB) and Certified Management Consultant (CMC).

He is currently a Trustee representing CMC Canada within the International Council for Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), and a Director of the Institute of Management Consultants of B.C (IMCBC), and was instrumental in forging the highly successful alliance between the CAMC and the Faculty of Management to establish the Management Consulting stream within the current MBA program.

Mike has co-authored a book titled ‘Business Diagnostics’, with Richard Mimick, former Professor of Management Accounting at Ivey School of Business. The book takes company owners through a pragmatic and effective 'size up' process. International editions of the book have been competed in both Australia and the U.K., while ‘Tourism Business Diagnostics’ co-authored with Richard Mimick and Frank Bourree was published spring 2006.

A Family Enterprise edition, co authored with Francine Carlin will be published Fall 2010.

Mike is actively involved in the Victoria technology community – formerly Director and Vice Chair of the Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Centre (VIATeC), and a past Director and board member of the Innovation and Development Corporation at the University of Victoria.
